Henschke is one of the longest established family names in the Barossa and the Australian wine industry. Johann Christian Henschke first planted vines in Keyneton in 1861, producing his first commercial vintage in 1868. The tradition of quality wine making has passed down through the generations – today seeing Stephen Henschke and his wife, Prue, as winemaker and viticulturist respectively.
Henry’s Seven is a shiraz, grenache, mourvèdre, viognier blend. It is a tribute to Henry Evans who planted the first vineyard of seven acres at Keyneton in 1853, who quickly developed a reputation for producing the best wines in the southern colony. Viognier is co-fermented with shiraz, and the grenache and mourvèdre are vinified separately. The wine is matured in older French hogsheads for 15 months prior to blending and bottling.
